June 30th is the Deadline for some SE Queensland councils rebate scheme. However many companies are allowing customer to pre-order Rain Water Tanks before the 30th June to take advantange of the Full Rebate offered.

As long as you have ordered a tank prior to June 30., you will be eligible for the current rebates. They are $500 on tank or tanks over 3000 litres, and $750 for tank or tanks over 5000 litres.

To claim the Rebate, you will have to submit the claim prior to September 30- even if the tank has not been delivered, or installed.

Victoria has a semi central system with the state government offering a ragne of rebate options. The Water Smart Gardens and Homes Rebate Scheme provides residential customers with a rebate off their water bill for purchasing water-saving devices and services, thereby reducing their water consumption. The scheme offers a range of “inside” and “outside” the home products. The rebates scheme is administered by the Victorian water businesses on behalf of the Government, in partnership with the Department of Sustainability and Environment.

NSW has a number of options when it comes to rebates for rain water tanks. Its dependent on what area you live in and who your water company is. Below are the details of what each water company offering rebates for rain water tanks.

Sydney Water Customers - Rainwater Tank Rebates Offers customers up to $800 to install a rainwater tank. A special Rainwater Tanks in Schools Rebate Program is also available for schools. This offer ends 31 July 2008.

,1000 - 3,999 litres - $150 tank rebate - plus $300* if a toilet and/or washing machine is connected to the rainwater tank
4,000 - 6,999 litres - $400 tank rebate - plus $300* if a toilet and/or washing machine is connected to the rainwater tank
7,000 + litres - $500 tank rebate - plus $300* if a toilet and/or washing machine is connected to the rainwater tank

Hunter Water Customers - Rainwater Tank Rebates Customers of Hunter water are eligible to apply for a rebate ranging from $300 to $650 depending on the size of the tank being installed. Rebate Details;

Gosford Wyong Water- Rainwater Tank Rebates Rebates are available to those customers connected to the town water supply.The value of the rebate depends on the size of your rainwater tank:

• 2,000 – 3,999 litres - $150
• 4,000 – 6,999 litres - $400
• 7,000+ litres - $500
• depending on your connection, an additional rebate of $300 or $500 applies to tanks with an internal connection by a licensed plumber to supply a toilet and/or washing machine.

Rous Water - Rainwater Tank Rebates Rous Water now offers customers three levels of rebates, based in the first instance on the tank volume. For more than one tank, the rebate is based on the total combined volume. Additional rebates are available if rainwater from the tank/s is supplied for flushing toilets and/or to the washing machine.

Goulburn Mulwaree Water - Rainwater Tank Rebate

The following rebate schedule is available for installation of rainwater tanks between 1 July 2006 and 30 June 2007:
• $200 for a tank up to 2,000 litres (minimum tank size 1,500 litres)
• $350 for a tank up to 5,000 litres
• $500 for a tank up to 10,000 litres (or greater)
• Additional $150 for a tank plumbed into the toilet, washing machine or connected to a booster pump.
To be eligible for the rebate, tanks and booster pumps must be purchased from a local supplier.

Orange City Council - Rainwater Tank Rebates

The following rebate schedule is available for installation of rainwater tanks until further notice:
•2000 - 3999 litres $150 tank rebate
• 4000 - 6999 litres $400 tank rebate
• 7000 litres or greater $500 tank rebate
• Additional $150 for a tank plumbed into the toilet or washing machine.

Shoalhaven Water - Rainwater Tank Rebates

Customers may be eligle to receive up to $500 off the cost of a rainwater tank plus an additional rebate if you get a licensed plumber to connect your tank to supply your toilet or washing machine

Some State and Local governments are help promote the instatlation of rain water tanks at home offering rebates to those who have purchased and installed water tanks. Below are an example of what you can get back

Queensland

State Governent: A rebate of up to $1000 is available or the purchase and installation of
home rainwater storages”

Brisbane City Council:

There are two rebates available depending on what size tank you install. You can recieve a rebate of $500 if rainwater tank/s equal to or more than 3,000 litres. Or you can claim for $750 if your rainwater tank/s equal to or more than 5,000 litres.

Caboolture Shire Council:

Offer for town water area

  • $300 rebate for a rainwater tank, or combination of tanks, with total volume 3,000L or greater
  • $100 rebate for a pump for the rainwater tank system
  • $100 rebate if the tank is connected internally to the house
  • 500 towards the cost of plumbing a rainwater tank/s of 3,000 litres capacity or more, into one or more flushing toilets or laundry fixtures for houses that received development approval before 1 January 2007.

and out of town water

  • $500 rebate is on offer for a rainwater tank, or combination of tanks, with total volume 20,000L or greater. (For an existing home the tank(s) must be in addition to existing tank(s)).
  • $500 towards the cost of plumbing a rainwater tank/s of 3,000 litres capacity or more into one or more flushign toilets or laundry fixtures for houses that received development approval before 1 January 2007.

Gatton Shire Council:

$500 Rebate

Ipswich City Council:

Rebates for rainwater tanks purchased from 1 July 2006 are:

  • * 3,000 - 4,999 litres - $500 rebate
  • * 5,000 litres and over - $750 rebate

Jondaryan Council:

Residents on town water supply who install a minimum tank or tanks of 22,500 litres (5,000 gallons) are eligible for a $250 rebate if the tank is connected for external use only, $350 if also connected to either a toilet, laundry or hot water system, and $550 if connected to all three plus outside taps

Logan City Council

Purchases (including deposits) of rainwater tanks holding 3000 litres or more, until 5pm on December 15, are eligible for Council’s $500 rebate if they are installed and proof of purchase is provided by 30 June 2007. After that date, rebates will only be available from the state government.

Pine Rivers Shire Council

REBATE up to $500 for pumps; plumbing materials and installation costs only - connected to at least one approved# internal device. Plus the plumbing inspection fee of $100 will be waived

Redcliffe Shire Council:

$300 for the purchase and installation of a rain water tank (3000 litres or greater).

Toowoomba Shire

$500 for the installation of rainwater tanks. To be eligible for the rebates, the tanks must have a capacity of at least 5,000 litres, and be connected to at least one toilet cistern or alternatively, to the laundry to supply washing machine; and a garden tap.

With many parts of Australia being placed on high level water restrictions due to one of the worst droughts on record, many people are turning to installing rain water tanks to ensure a supply of water. Briefly looking at three of our states we see that Sydey and is surrounding area’s are on level 3 restrictions, Melbourne is on level 3a and Brisbane is on level 5! With level 6 not too far away.

Many governments are now offering grants for property owners who install rain water tanks so its never been a better time to install a rain water tank. The federal government is also promoting the installation of tanks with a community grant for community organisations who aim to promote the  save, recycle or improve the health of their local water resources.
